These classes focus on U.S. national security issues as the nation heads toward the 10th anniversary of the attacks on the Twin Towers and the Pentagon. Basic themes include, but are not limited to:
- Military strategies in an era of asymmetrical warfare
- Counterinsurgencies and terrorism
- Threats in the cyberworld and threats to civil liberties
- American alliances of principle or convenience
- The role of the intelligence agencies.
In all of these issues, we examine the media’s role and how well they communicate with
the American public.

Graduate Courses
four quarters to participate in a 5th Quarter Specialization Program in National Security Reporting. Students will expand their knowledge of the issues through seminars, then launch major reporting projects with a unified overarching theme – such as military justice or failing states.
